THE COMPASSION SCAM

8/11/10

Americans are generous people.  We have been given a great deal and when people are in need, we give a great deal. We give voluntarily.  We do not have to be compelled to give because we have compassion for those less fortunate.  Even those Americans who have very little donate money to Tsunami victims, hurricane victims, earthquake victims, and flood victims on an international level.  On a local level, people chip in to help those with illnesses, people whose homes have been destroyed by fire or who have been victims of crimes like murder and burglary.  Americans give their money, they give their time, and they give their skills to help others.

Additionally, Americans give their tax dollars to help the elderly, the poor, those who have lost their jobs.  They give their tax dollars to help governments of other nations remain effective so that large populations of people do not fall into chaos.  We support a military that maintains stability in much of the world.  We are a generous people and a compassionate people.

And we are a people whose generosity and compassion is currently being manipulated by our own government in order to diminish our nation and ourselves.

Our government, for example, tells us that we should tolerate illegal immigration because those who come here illegally are simply ordinary people attempting to earn a living for themselves and their families.  They tell us that we should tolerate the illegal immigration of millions of people into our nation, across our borders because they are willing to do work that Americans seem unwilling to do.  They tell us that illegal immigrants are not taking jobs from American citizens.  This is what they tell us about the population of illegals who are primarily Hispanic.

However, when they come to tell us about welfare subsidies to the poor who are largely black, we hear quite a different story.  We hear that discrimination against black people prevents them from getting work and consequently are unemployed and in need of assistance.  Are we, therefore, to believe that black American citizens are unwilling to do the work that is being done by the millions of illegal Hispanic workers?  If this is so, why is it so?  Are black workers less skilled?  Are black workers lazier? Are black workers satisfied with the subsistence payments made by the government?  Can black workers not find the jobs that illegal Hispanics are taking?   Are employers actually discriminating against black American citizens in favor of illegal Hispanic non-citizens?  If that is so, why is it so?  Is it because illegal Hispanics are willing to work for less than unemployed black citizens are willing to work for?  If so, why is it so?  Is it that unemployed black citizens make more money by not working than illegal Hispanics can earn by working?  If that is so, why is it so?

America, we are being scammed by the income redistributors and reparationists.  Vast amounts of wealth are currently being transferred from one group of  Americans to “those in need”.  But something----in fact a lot of things---just don’t make any sense.  Today I heard about a plan to send 2 billion dollars to 17 states whose level of unemployment has been higher than the national average for one year.  Interestingly, these are preponderantly if not all BLUE states, that is, states that vote Democrat in national elections.  The money is to be used to help pay mortgages for people who are “under water” in their mortgages.  In short, American taxpayer dollars are being used to pay the mortgages for some Americans but not others.

Let’s for a moment consider the criteria.  First to consider is why it is that states with the highest unemployment rates in the past year are preponderantly states with Democrat governments and a population that votes Democrat in national elections.  Why are more Democrats unemployed than Republicans?  Are these states all states with large cities populated by vast numbers of unemployed people who own homes they cannot afford to keep?  Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago---cities that have voted Democrat for their leaders for many many years, all of which are cities, which are failing.  Do they fail because of their population or because of their leadership?  Or are they failing because there is so much poverty in the big cities?  Why is there so much poverty in large cities?  It would seem that large cities have many more jobs than smaller cities.  Isn’t that why people gravitated to the large cities to begin with?  Clearly, the leadership of those cities has failed.

Let’s look at the criterion of “higher unemployment than the national average for more than a year”.  During this economic downturn, it is apparent that a great many people are losing their jobs.  Some have been unemployed for a year, some perhaps for two years.  Those who have lost their jobs in the last two years are clearly victims of the current economic crisis.  But, is the government, in considering unemployment, considering areas in which people have lost their jobs only in the last two years?  Of course not!  Now how many of these areas which are now being considered for government “grants” had high levels of unemployment PRIOR TO this economic downturn.  Will those people who have not worked or sought work for 3, 4, 5, 6 …. 10 years, years of economic strength, will they be eligible for government grants?  Are we being scammed into believing that we are helping those who have been hurt by a bad economy while, in fact, we are simply increasing the amount of welfare being given to people who have not been productive in our society for some time?

How much government money is being spread around to people who will not take jobs that illegal immigrants are willing to take?  Is there a good reason for taking money from those who have earned it and transferring it to those who have not?  There is a huge difference for compassionate Americans between helping those who are unable to earn a living versus helping those who have been unwilling to earn a living.  Is the government taking advantage of the generosity of Americans by hiding where, indeed, the money is going?

My liberal friends will respond that it is only the “rich” who have benefited so greatly in the past, whose taxes will be raised.  Here we have another progressive government scam.  The “rich” are declared to be people earning 200 thousand dollars a year or more.  The data supports that only 3 percent of the population actually earns this much money.  But the data also shows that a preponderance of that 3 percent are small business owners who do not earn much more than that 200 thousand dollars.  In taking the money from those people, the government does several negative things.  Since accumulating wealth is what makes small business owners take the risks necessary to start and maintain a business, taking more of the money makes taking the risks less appealing.  Why work so hard, hire so many, put up with the headaches of running a business for an increasingly smaller piece of the pie.  And why, oh why, should it be that others who did not take the risks, did not exercise the creativity or the innovation, did not work 50 and 60 hour weeks to keep a business afloat, should get a larger piece of the pie?  In taking more money, the government does to small businesses what it has already done to the welfare class.  The welfare class makes more money taking government subsidies than it can make by working at those jobs taken by illegals.  Eventually, entrepreneurs will make as much money as an employee as they would make as an employer.  Hence fewer jobs will be created.  And then who will do the hiring?

We all know the answer to that question.  The GOVERNMENT will do the hiring.  We will all be working for the government.  In the past two years, the only growth in employment has been growth in government jobs.  And the average salary and benefits for government employees is nearly twice that of the private sector worker.  Well, you say, that’s not bad.  Why shouldn’t the government simply employ everybody and then everybody will be wealthy.  We all should know they answer to that as well.  The government gets its money from taxes.  And those taxes come in large part from private sector employees.  Government employees also pay taxes but they are merely giving back to the government some of the money the government gave to them….and where did the government get the money in the first place?  From the private sector employees, of course.  The government, until it took over General Motors, was not in the business of making or selling anything.  Its revenues are tax revenues.  The larger the government payroll, the more taxes the behemoth requires.  It is an unsustainable enterprise.

Let’s get back, for a moment, to the fact that the rich are paying the taxes.  If you are single person in America and you earn 200 thousand dollars, you will pay 33% of your taxable income in taxes to the government.  If you make 200 million dollars, you will pay only 2% more in taxes or 35%.   So a small business owner is paying roughly the same percentage in taxes as the Wall Street guy with the 50 million dollar bonus.  Does that look like the “rich are paying”?  In point of fact, it is not the very rich who are paying the taxes.  They use their money to buy favors from the government.  One favor, a big one, being that they only pay 2% more in taxes on their income than the small business owner.

If you take the top 1% of wage earners, their adjusted gross income starts at 410 thousand dollars.  That is the top ONE percent.  Now 410 thousand dollars is quite a lot of money, however, it is less than half a million dollars and we hear all the time about “fat cat” CEO’s and Wall Street financiers making millions and even 100’s of millions of dollars.   Only .3% of the population makes a million dollars or more per year.  Sounds like a very small number, indeed, however, it amounts to 900 thousand people.  Follow my math here:  When the Democrats call people making 200 thousand dollars rich, they are lumping them in with the 900 thousand people who make over 1 million dollars a year, including those who make tens of millions of dollars a year.  If .3% of the population is 900 thousand people, then 3% of the population is ten times more than that or 9 million people.  If 900 thousand people make more than a million, then EIGHT MILLION ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND people make between 200 thousand and 1 million dollars.  Those 8 million plus people pay 33% of their income in taxes while those nearly a million people who earn a million dollars or more pay a mere 2% more.  It is not the richest among us who pay the preponderance of taxes.  It is the entrepreneur and the small business owner, the professionals (doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants, etc) who Democrats call the rich who pay the preponderance of taxes.  Further, by lumping those who make 200 thousand among the rich, the government, this Democrat government, hide the fact that the 900 thousand super rich that fill politicians’ war chests with gold, are getting a huge tax break.

So why would a government seek to increase taxes on small business?  Here is where the scam becomes full blown.  By taxing the job creators, government can create greater unemployment.  By creating greater private sector unemployment, the government can increase the number of government employees AND simultaneously hide the redistribution of income by declaring that funds are going to those newly unemployed when in fact the funds are going to the long-term unemployed.  So, if you are wondering why none of the stimulus money is providing other than government jobs, you have your answer.  The stimulus money is being redistributed to people who depend on government, increasing government’s power and control.  The stimulus money was never intended to create private sector jobs.

So, as Americans consider the increasing amounts of money being provided to newly unemployed during this downturn, understand that extending unemployment benefits for two years and not creating jobs is simply a way to make millions more Americans dependent on government for their livelihood.  Progressives have created 17 million new welfare recipients, an expanded federal government, and further enslavement of the American worker.  All the while, they are pulling on America’s heartstrings, telling us they are concerned about unemployment, and asking us to pay more for the poor unfortunate souls who cannot provide for themselves.

The scam must end soon.  For it depends on productive citizens providing money to the government.  Soon they will run out of other people’s money to redistribute.  And when that happens, then everyone will have to depend on the government and do what the government tells you is in your own best interests.

Compassion for others is a virtue.  But when one is compassionate at one’s own expense, it is martyrdom.  Sacrificing yourself for others means that you can no longer be a person who helps but must, of necessity, become one of those that needs help.  And who, then, will there be that is left to have compassion for you?
